Five ICE detainees claimed inadequate food, sleeping conditions, and medical care.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a press release after District Judge Robert Gettleman ordered that conditions at a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility be improved.
The judge ruled in a class action suit from five detainees that conditions at the facility were “unnecessarily cruel.” He ordered various specified accommodations for hygiene, food, and environmental care.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin responded that, despite stories to the contrary, “The ICE Broadview Facility does NOT have subprime conditions. All detainees are provided with 3 meals a day, water, and have access to phones to communicate with their family members and lawyers. No one is denied access to proper medical care.”
The assistant secretary also addressed allegations that ICE conducted a raid at a Chicago daycare. She stated that when officers attempted to stop a car carrying a female illegal alien, she and the driver fled into the daycare and attempted to barricade themselves in, “recklessly endangering the children inside.“ Assistant Secretary McLaughlin said, “The illegal alien female was arrested inside a vestibule, not in the school.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For DHS and ICE officials as they detain and care for violent illegal immigrants in federal facilities.
- For discernment for federal judges as they hear complaints against federal immigration enforcement.
